Why a Lobby Day on Child Care?

In 2016, we hosted a Fair Start Lobby Day where we met with dozens of Ministers and MLAs to call for action on affordable child care. Since that day the Government of Alberta has launched the $25/day Early Learning and Child Care Centres program, along with other initiatives. With an election on the horizon, we believe the time is right for us to return to the Legislature to push MLAs from all parties for further action.  

This year, we will be reminding MLAs of the importance of investing in affordable child care, while specifically asking MLAs to support our calls to expand the $25/day Early Learning and Child Care Centres program to be available to all Alberta families, and to support a plan to build a universal system of Early Childhood Education and Care in Alberta.

Lobby Day Schedule

8:00 a.m. - Educational Breakfast with MLAs

• Learn more about the Fair Start Campaign and child care in Alberta.

9:00 a.m. - Training and Briefing

• Tips and training on how to lobby an MLA

10:00 a.m. onwards – Lobby Meetings with MLAs

• Participants meet with MLAs in pairs or groups throughout the morning

1:00 p.m. - Observe Question Period

• A chance to watch your elected representatives in action.
